DISH boneless chicken breast cooked and simmered in garlic and herb sauce (a sauce mix heh) sprinkled with basil, and topped with sweet baby tomatoes, surrounded by a bed of lettuce and avocados.

COMMENTS/TIPS
Though I am the biggest salt fan, I may have added a bit more than I liked; on the flip side, Brian loved it.
It was a great way to make chicken; easy to eat, but there was a lot of salt. Didn't matter though, still uber tasty.

Creekside Dining

Occasionally we'll go out and eat, so on these days we'll be posting up reviews and pictures of what we ordered. And since this week is Valentine's Weekend, we started off with lunch at Creekside Brewing Company in San Luis Obispo, CA. Great restaurant, average prices. We went here for the first time a week before and our experience was so good that we went back twice.

DISH Mojo Tomatoes with Crostini Bread (sweet tomatoes tossed with citrus olive oil, basil, and fresh mozzarella, served with crostini bread) - $7

COMMENTS
It's the perfect appetizer, such a fresh and light way to start lunch. we ordered this the first time we went and it was just too good not to have it again. Except we were bummed that the bread was partially burnt and a little too soaked in oil this time around...what can you do. But seriously, orgasm in my mouth.
Just a phenomenal appetizer, nice and oily. The bread is toasted to perfection, the tomatoes are really sweet. Really nothing to complain about except I wish I had some right now.

DISH California Bird (grilled chicken breast, melted swiss cheese, and smoked bacon on grilled sourdough; with a side of their house salad topped with red peppers and croutons) - $8

Last time, Creekside made the most perfectly tender and juicy chicken I've ever had, you literally can bite right down into it. This time was a little different though.
Meh, these were whatever. The last time we came here the chicken was really tender, but this chicken was a little charred and it hurt the texture of the dish. Probably wouldn't order this again. It would probably be a difference story if they cooked the chicken the same as before.

DISH Chicken Quesadilla - $9 (lunch special of the day) with a side of salsa and mayo based dip; along with chicken tortilla soup, their soup of the day.

COMMENTS
The quesadillas were really good, but nothing special. It was kind of hard to eat because they kept falling apart.
It was a good quesadilla, but I expect a little bit more cheese in my "quesa"dilla. It didn't really make an imprint on me, and the soup was also mediocre.

DISH New York Cheesecake served with caramelized pears - $free
Here's what you do to get free dessert: Wait till the waiter gives you your check and then have your significant other say "Would we be able to get a little dessert for the birthday girl?" and then you smile innocently at him or her and the waiter will be stoked and give you free cheesecake. Worked for us twice, but the first time was actually on my birthday.

The cold, dense cheesecake paired with warm caramelized pears was godly.
Just great... enough said, and it was free.

El Pollo Chino

DISH fat and small crunchy pieces of juicy Mandarin Orange Chicken (frozen section of Trader Joe's, or Trader Ming's cause that what it said on the bag) on top of fresh brown rice

COMMENTS/TIPS
Chinese food is good all day, everyday.
I love orange chicken. They were really easy to prepare and went well with just a bowl of rice. Some of the bits were really big, making it a little hard to eat but still super tasty. Trader Joe's frozen section is great because they don't use any preservatives. They make it fresh and you have up to 20 days to eat it, and I think they were only like 5 bucks so a good deal too!

Side note: Is there vinegar in orange chicken?

MAIN DISH pressed sandwich filled with sauteed mushrooms and onion sprinkled with basil, a sliver of smoked Gouda cheese, some smoked turkey coldcuts, slices of tomatoes and avocados, and lettuce all on whole wheat bread

COMMENTS/TIPS
I discovered this amazing sandwich by putting in all my favorite things into one sandwich, and of course it turned out great.
I love these sandwiches. They fill you up and the Gouda is a perfect compliment. Without the Gouda, it's not the great but whatever.

This bad boy sandwich gets whipped up at least once a week for dinner; it's a fallback dish now when we either 1) don't have much food in the fridge or 2) too lazy to cook a legit meal or 3) if we want a sandwich. Nevertheless, it's always great.

Warm Cornbread and Chili MMMM

DISH warm, crumbly, moist cornbread drizzled with sweet honey and melted butter; with a side of thick, meaty turkey chili

SIDE DISH lightly drizzled Italian dressing on a bed of mixed greens, topped with sweet beefy tomatoes

INGREDIENTS
cornbread mix (contains actual pieces of corn - the real shit)
canned turkey chili from Trader Joe's
-try it, it's a great combo

COMMENTS/TIPS
I really enjoyed mixing the cornbread and chili in bowl to make a mushy substance. It's sweet and a little spicy. It's a dish that I grew up loving and I still do. The honey was a nice addition to the cornbread.

Though the title of our blog may be misleading (the homemade part, oh no not the dank), we're making homemade dishes every once in a while and on some days with the help of pre-made food but with our own added twist of course.
Oh, and another great combo - dinner and The Office, "The Murder"...classic episode.

COMMENTS/TIPS
It was sweet and salty, which is always an amazing combo.
It was really tasty, having a bit of pepper with a bit of stuffing... mmm. The stuffing was really sweet and it made eating the dish really easy. I remember overstuffing myself with this.

It's good to experiment and stay away from recipes. Whipping up/mixing a bunch of good food is bound to create something delicious right? (ei. this stuffing I made) Worked here..
